Hoya 'Publicalyx'
Hoya 'Publicalyx'
Wax Plant (Hoya publicalyx) is native to the humid forests of the Philippines, where it climbs through the mid-canopy in search of filtered light. The air remains heavy with moisture, and rainfall arrives in brief but frequent bursts, followed by long hours of warmth and stillness. It anchors itself in pockets of moss and bark high above the ground, where water drains quickly but humidity never fully departs.
This species is known for its vigor and adaptability. Its vines grow long and strong, supporting elongated, lance-shaped leaves of deep green often dusted with silver mottling. Under bright conditions, the foliage develops shades of maroon or purple, a protective pigment that deepens with sun exposure. Each leaf is firm and smooth, built for retention and endurance.
When mature, Hoya publicalyx produces clusters of star-shaped flowers—usually dark pink to deep crimson with a waxy sheen. Their fragrance is rich and sweet, spreading softly through warm evening air.
In cultivation, it thrives in bright, indirect light with well-draining soil and regular humidity. Quick to establish and generous in bloom, Hoya publicalyx rewards space, light, and time—its trailing vines and silver-flecked leaves capturing the calm exuberance of its tropical origin.
