Hoya Macrophylla Variegated
Hoya Macrophylla Variegated
Wax Plant (Hoya latifolia ‘Albomarginata’), also known as the Porcelain Flower, is native to the tropical forests of Indonesia and Malaysia, where it grows epiphytically among tree canopies and rocky limestone outcrops. The environment is warm and humid, with filtered light and steady air movement that keeps the foliage dry despite constant moisture in the air.
This large-leaved species is admired for its thick, oval foliage—succulent in texture and often spanning several inches across. The variegated form, ‘Albomarginata’, displays broad margins of cream or pale pink surrounding deep green centers. The leaf surface is slightly ridged, marked with faint veining that resembles an alligator’s skin. Each leaf is smooth, waxy, and luminous in strong indirect light.
When mature, Hoya latifolia ‘Albomarginata’ produces clusters of star-shaped, ivory flowers with a light, sweet fragrance. The blooms contrast beautifully against the bold foliage, adding refinement to its tropical structure.
In cultivation, it prefers bright, indirect light, high humidity, and a well-draining medium. Water sparingly, allowing the roots to breathe. Distinguished by both scale and grace, this variegated form stands among the most sculptural of the Hoya genus—a living testament to balance between strength and delicacy.
