Hoya Krohniana Black

Hoya Krohniana Black

Super Silver Hoya (Hoya krohniana ‘Super Silver’), also called Silver Hoya, is native to the humid lowland forests of the Philippines, where it grows epiphytically along tree trunks and shaded branches. The air is dense with moisture and the light, though filtered, carries intensity from long tropical days. Occasional rainfall rinses the leaves, followed by hours of still, radiant humidity.

This compact species is known for its small, heart-shaped leaves that shimmer with a dense layer of silver speckling. Under consistent, bright, indirect light, the foliage can shift in tone—deepening toward violet-gray or near-black depending on exposure. Each leaf is firm, smooth, and slightly cupped, its surface reflecting light like brushed metal. The vines remain short and tidy, forming a dense mat of reflective foliage ideal for hanging growth or terrarium culture.

When mature, Hoya krohniana produces clusters of porcelain-white flowers with a faint, sweet fragrance. Their subtle glow contrasts strikingly against the darkened foliage beneath.

In cultivation, Super Silver Hoya thrives in warm, bright, humid conditions with excellent drainage. It is prized for its compact habit, resilient nature, and luminous leaves that appear almost metallic in changing light—a living balance between shadow and shine.
