Hoya Heart Flame
Hoya Heart Flame
Hoya Heart Flame (Hoya kerrii ‘Flame’) is native to the warm, humid forests of Southeast Asia, where it grows as a climbing epiphyte among the upper branches of trees. The air is heavy with moisture, sunlight filters through the canopy in shifting beams, and rain arrives frequently but drains quickly through the bark and moss where its roots take hold.
This slow-growing, evergreen vine is distinguished by its thick, heart-shaped leaves—fleshy and firm, measuring up to six centimeters wide and five millimeters thick. The stems, woody and strong, can reach several meters in length when supported, forming a structured, enduring framework. The ‘Flame’ variety is admired for its subtle variegation and resilient form, a plant that matures gradually, rewarding years of steady light and care.
When in bloom, clusters of waxy, star-shaped flowers appear along mature vines, their fragrance sweet and lingering through the evening air. Each bloom is a delicate contrast to the weight and texture of the foliage.
In cultivation, Hoya kerrii ‘Flame’ thrives in bright, indirect light and a well-draining medium. Water sparingly, allowing the roots to breathe between soakings. Slow to grow but enduring, it embodies patience and permanence—a living emblem of devotion and time.
