Hoya Bella
Hoya Bella
Porcelain Flower (Hoya bella), also known as Wax Plant or Honey Plant, is native to the humid foothills of northeast India and Burma, where it grows epiphytically along tree branches and rocky ledges near streams. The air is heavy with moisture, and filtered sunlight passes through shifting layers of foliage. Rainfall is regular but brief, leaving mist that lingers into the afternoon.
This compact species forms fine, trailing vines clothed in small, glossy leaves of deep green, sometimes marked with soft silver or cream tones. The foliage is firm and slightly leathery, built to withstand fluctuating humidity and light. When allowed to drape from a basket or trellis, the stems layer gracefully, forming dense cascades of foliage.
Clusters of white, star-shaped flowers appear freely through the warm months. Each bloom bears a pink to magenta center and a delicate, sweet fragrance that intensifies in still air. The flowers persist several days, occasionally exuding clear nectar along their waxen surface.
In cultivation, Hoya bella thrives in bright, indirect light with soil that dries lightly between waterings. High humidity enhances both leaf luster and bloom production. Admired for its balance of vigor and refinement, it remains one of the most cherished Hoyas for indoor gardens.
